About Respondent
Respondent is an online marketplace, launched in 2016, where companies and research teams recruit people for user research and market research. Instead of running its own focus group rooms, it lets researchers post projects, screen applicants and pay incentives in one place. Its participant pool includes everyday consumers as well as business professionals and healthcare workers, so many studies look for people with particular jobs or expertise.
Respondent Locations
Respondent is an online platform, not a physical facility. Most studies happen remotely by video call, survey or app, and you can take part from anywhere with a stable internet connection. Some researchers do run in-person sessions, and those listings show where you need to be. Studies we have listed from the platform have been open to participants across the US.
How to Join Respondent Studies
- Create a free account. Sign up on the participant registration page and fill in your profile.
- Apply to projects. Each study has its own screener questions about your background or habits.
- Get scheduled. If the researcher picks you, you book a time through the platform.
- Complete the session. Once the researcher confirms you took part, your incentive is released.
You can also apply to current studies from the listings on this page.
How Much Does Respondent Pay?
Every project sets its own incentive. Studies on our site from the platform have paid $125 to $300, with the highest amount offered for a mock jury. Shopping, smart home, nutrition and personal finance studies have typically paid $125 to $185. Incentives are delivered through Tremendous, where you choose a gift card or other payout option, usually within a few days of the session. According to its help center, a 5% processing fee (at least $1) is taken from each incentive, so a $100 study pays out $95.

Is Respondent Legit?
Yes. It is a well-known research platform used by companies of all sizes, and payments run through an established incentive provider. The trade-offs are competition, since popular studies attract many applicants, and the small processing fee taken from payouts. Signing up is free, and we only list companies that never charge participants to join or take part.
